The most touristic place in Tokyo is probably Asakusa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asakusa
I guess the Imperial Palace is also worth seeing

At night, maybe a quick look from the top of Tokyo Tower could be nice as well

The only problem is, besides that, there is nothing interesting around there (Roppongi is close, a famous place to go out for foreigners, I personaly don't like it). And it's better if the weather isn't foggy...
I'm sure other people have many other suggestions! |

I loved Shinjinku at night - but you have to be very thick-skinned not to be tempted by those rotters wanting to take you to "lovely ladies" LOL
Daft as it sounds, just to walk accross the most famous pedestrian crossing in the world (comes in from all four corners) was a buzz too ... maybe I am just too easily pleased.
A trip in Green class on the bullet train is like being in business class with the best airlines, and shows you just how the new and the old co-exist so perfectly in Japan's countryside as it whizzes past.
But most of all, more than anything else in the whole of your experience, you simply MUST allow time to go allong to some of the least touristy food places and experience the mind-boggling art of Ramen.
I am a gourmet, a world-travelled foodie of mamoth proportions. In ramen lies Japan. It looks simple, it looks beautiful, it looks calm. Beneath the surface, as in Japan itself though, is a complex experience of flavour, texture, savoury bliss. I never thought I would get excited about a noodle soup, but these small dishes of delight are to be relished with a reverence to the ten years that the chefs take to perfect them.
Each one is different, and none dissapoint. All food in Japan hit the spot for me - from the fried ears and other bits at the bar, to the lavish works of art the department stores call cakes. From the freshest sushi in the world, to the exquisite beefburgers at Suzuka (the best burgers in F1). But at the top of the list is ramen.
But be warned ... you can NEVER eat at Wagamoma's again! _________________ El Presidenti |
