SUPER AGURI F1 TEAM experienced an encouraging day, as both Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson found a small improvement in pace for the second day of the 2008 Malaysian Grand Prix weekend.
Takuma Sato;
“I think that the team did a great job again, under the circumstances. We showed good speed in the morning as I did Qualifying simulation and I was happy with the balance. During my first run in Qualifying the grip level was quite low and I had traffic, but then on the last run I hooked up everything I needed and I enjoyed the lap. I will certainly try to make a good race tomorrow.”
Anthony Davidson;
“Another difficult Qualifying session today for us. I think that we have improved slightly since the last race. My middle run this afternoon was good, but I struggled to find the right balance in the car for the last run.”
Graham Taylor, Sporting Director;
“All credit to the drivers, engineers and the boys after a very difficult Friday. We came back fighting; we had a good practice session this morning and a better balance in the car. We were a little worried about the forecast of rain during Qualifying as neither driver has run with the new ECU rules in the wet, but fortuitously that didn’t occur. Our small victory of Takuma beating one of the Force India cars gives us hope for tomorrow.”

We are quite close to both Force India and Toro Rosso, it appears. I think with the new car coming out we can pass them easily.
LOOKING LIKE RAIN TOMORROW! |

Let's not forget that Nakajima will start from last place on the grid because he received a penalty for crashing into the back of Robert Kubica last week.
Weather prediction for tomorrow:
| Quote: | | Variable clouds with scattered thunderstorms. High 87F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 50%. |

As far as i know new car won't come so soon and when it comes it's very possible that SA will be the slowest team again, but that depends on which version of RA108 Honda will provide us. New car won't arrive until Turkey (and it's a big question will SA drive with SA08B(?) this year at all!) as some reports suggested. Until then, our nearest competitors Toro Rosso and Force India will have massive updates on their cars. Toro Rosso will probably get a new car in the meantime from Red Bull.
I don't know about SA but all other teams will have massive development ready for Spanish GP. Somebody from here who's in Malaysia or is going to the Bahrain and has nice relationship with SA's team members should ask if they plan to do some developed for Spanish GP. It's hard because all other teams are working all the time on their cars and SA can only do some minor development for now. I'm affraid our gap to the all other teams will constantly increase through the season
It would be very naive to try to do something for this season. As soon as formal stuff with Super Aguri and Magma are over at the end of this month, new owners should start with massive investments to expand all technical departments and specially focus on aerodynamics. There's no point in wasting much time and resources on this season anymore.
Although it's one of SA's main rival on track, Force India should be an example of "how things should be done" in next two years for new owners here. |
