|
|
Hey guys, has anyone been to the garages of other teams?? I'm wondering how different they are in attitude compared to the SAF1 pit crew. I've been to the garages and met the SAF1 boys and they all seem so down to earth, carefree, relaxed and friendly but dedicated to their job 100%. My friends has been into the Red Bull garage and they seem to say the same with those guys......
What about the teams like ferrari, Mclaren, Renault? Would they be the same or are they more serious? Can anyone shed some light on this? _________________ Regards,

ystong,
ironically teams like ferrari, Mclaren, Renault say that there should be a relaxed attitude in the pitlane.
But do you notice what they do? They put these big screens in front of their garages so nobody can see anything etc.
Red Bull is a real cool team in that aspect for me.
They make fun but are serious when they have to. |

How interesting, I was only talking about this the other day with a lady who had commented on how the SAF1 boys were all 'having a laugh' at the launch.
I pointed out that this is how BAR used to be and that now they are Honda and not so successful, that there had been a marked difference in their behaviour ... they are a lot more solemn these days - as though they feel they are being watched.
Ferrari are a lesson in team work whenever you see them. They are simply the best at being 'team' and you can see this whenever the camera hits their pit. Joking, relaxed, confident, smooth, calm, smart, uninterested in others. I would be a very happy manager if they were my guys.
Renault still look under pressure at times - see them rush things a few times, the odd fumble, the odd look at each other as the car approaches, almost there but need another championship to relax them a little.
One thing both of those teams have in common is drivers who do not even hint at criticism of them ... the drivers are part of those teams too.
Toyota are almost like a mirror to Honda.
Red Bull are calm but not slick. As with Torro there is a lot of looking around, but during the quiet periods, they seem to be having fun, and are sort of like side-kicks to the other teams ... hard to describe, but they let the Ferrari guy go first, hold the door for Renault, that kind of politeness.
In terms of pit lane walks the boards come out to hide things, barriers go up to keep fans away from the cars and away from the boards (most of us hold cameras above the board - but the barrier stops some of that) - but that really isn't the guys, it is the managers.
Something that was very odd was what happened to us Aguri fans in Monaco... as we moved along the back wall of the pit lane we passed the Honda garage and all the guys packing the Hondas away applauded us! I still don't know exactly why, but I hope it was because they remembered when we were giving them support. _________________ El Presidenti |

I remember when the Honda team cheered (or was it jeered) us as we passed their garage. It was both odd and wonderful at the same time. I just hope they realise we still support 'them' (the crew) even if many of us don't support one of the drivers (JB) and some of the current management team (NF). Anyone who has talked with Shuhei Nakamoto (http://world.honda.com/F1/2006/0620/) will know how unassuming and apparently relaxed he is - a bright light in Honda management.
The other odd thing that happened at Monaco this year was when a couple of the Ferrari pit crew took pictures of us as we passed by - whatever else anyone may think of Ferrari they certainly have passion; I think they recognised that passion in the SAF1 fans.
Oops - almost forgot the SA guys. Well, they do seem to be settling in at the sharp end (opinion from TV and Monaco) - but did anyone else get a kind of 'Keystone Cops' feeling when they were packing up after Monaco |
