Super Aguri's managing director Daniel Audetto has admitted the Japanese squad would be interested in hiring Briton Anthony Davidson if he left Honda.

Davidson's contract with Honda F1 expires at the end of this season, leaving him free to chase new opportunities in the driver market. The British driver has been Honda's test and third driver since the 2001 season.

"It's all down to Honda really," Audetto told this week's Autosport. "If they let him go, then of course we would be very interested. He is fast and he has a lot of experience with the Honda engine and gearbox. He could be an ideal guy to help us develop."

Honda boss Nick Fry said they would consider letting Davidson go if the right deal came along.

Fry said: "He has done and continues to do an excellent job for the team. We have always said we would never stand in his way if an appropriate opportunity were to come along."

Autosport also reports GP2 driver Nelson Piquet Jr will test for Super Aguri this year, most likely at the pre-Italian GP Monza test at the end of this month.

Piquet Jr was seen having lunch at Hockenheim with this father and manager Nelson Piquet, Honda boss Nick Fry and sporting director Gil de Ferran.
