The motorsport world is waking up to the terrible news that Colin McRae, 1995 World Rally Champion, has died in a helicopter crash close to his Scottish home. Colin won the hearts of rally fans, and fans of motorsport everywhere with his never-give-up approach to racing. Making repairs to his car on the side of the road to make sure he could compete in the next stage showed a determination some drivers lacked. His driving was always good to watch and exciting sectors abounded. He brought rally to a new generation.
A sad loss, and saf1.org sends our heart-felt condolences to the McRae family and his fans. BBC news here
