Monaco 2007 will not go down in history as one of the great races. Yet again we see poor luck hitting our team, and even a little poor judgement. Others didn't fair any better during a processional race either.

Lets look at the events...

On Saturday, timing errors meant that both Super Aguri drivers missed an opprtunity for a third flying lap in the opening quallifying session. It's a mistake that is easily made, but perhaps the team should have had someone reading our chat forum - five or six of us all 'shouting' that they should get out soon or they would miss their slot. Easy for us, we are only watching - not running around like a headless chicken trying to get the best from the car. Very forgivable, but a race loser.

Two glimmers of hope came Taku's way - first, he avoided a sudden slow-down at the first corner by going the wrong side of the kerb. Thankfully it did not lead to a penalty, and he made a few places in the process. I think he escaped penalty because it was very arguable that he was avoiding a collision - and that is permitted.

Second glimmer came in a blindingly good game of tailgating, when Alonso lapped Trulli, Taku sailed past with him. Sublime. Within two laps Taku was 7.7 seconds ahead of Trulli, so it was clearly a case of natural justice.

As Taku enjoyed two glimmers, so Anthony suffered two big black clouds... Sadly, Anthony did not get the tailgate chance when Hamilton passed Trulli - Trulli had obviously learned from Taku that one should give way, but not give away a position in the process.

Blue flags for a car TWO SECONDS BEHIND was his other bit of bad luck. The usually brilliant marshalling of Monaco suffered a credibility issue when they gave a drive-through penalty to Anthony for "holding up" Massa. At the stage they were waving those flags, Anthony would have had to park up and wait for Massa to pass!  Poor call marshalls.

The first three cars were the only cars on the finishing lap. McLaren had done a fantastic job and had sealed the race result from the first corner. Oddly (for those of us who like racing) it appeared from his tuck-in move off the line, that Hamilton had been told that the race was for Alonso this week. Whilst I agree that any team leading the race by a country mile should do something to protect their ability to finish the race, it is a sad day when the race is decided before the red lights go out.

Hamilton lacked his usual bounce afterwards, and little wonder. He lost out to Alonso's better pit stop tactics earlier in the year, and now when a stop strategy would have helped him, Ron Dennis decides to scrap that idea and call Hamilton in too early and wreck his chances. Shameful.

Hamilton admits that as number 2 driver, he has to give way to Alonso. Well, I think Alonso should feel tarnished. There will always be a doubt as to whether he was the better man this year at Monaco.

Taku and Anthony both finished the race, and that is another milestone for team and Taku. Monaco has not been the luckiest of places for Taku so far, but it can't last forever.

Overall, the race was not the best by a very long way. The race only ever favours the best quallifier. Roll on Canada and USA - both places that Taku and Anthony can get the most out of a long drive.
