Practice sessions hinted at what we might see, but nothing is certain until the results are announced.

We watched as both Takuma and Anthony shocked the F1 world by coming from the back of the grid for most of 2006 to an astonishing achievement in Melbourne’s qualifying sessions.
Just a couple of weeks ago I wrote that Super Aguri need to do something special to give the fans a chance to walk tall, a championship point to legitimise the team would make the fans so proud. As I write this, we have yet to see if that is possible – but at the moment there cannot be any fans prouder than us!

Takuma making the final shoot-out brought tears of joy and I can only imagine what elation he must have felt to learn he was so far up the grid … at last a team and a car that suits him.

Tomorrow’s race will be an amazing milestone for a team just 12 months old. Now we see the cars deep into the midfield. Both drivers beating some very seasoned and very well funded teams. Just as Taku had predicted at the Autoshow in January.

Some teams have said that the SA07 is not sufficiently different to the Hondas to be legal … really? So why are they so much faster?

This is a fairy-tale start, and I hope to be sitting there watching the team taking their first points, but even if that doesn’t happen, the 21,000 mile round trip has been worth it.
