Only a few days to go now before we see what Taku and Ant can do against the developments and progress made by all the other teams. I am always nervous at the start of a new season - will we be able to make a good enough impression during the first few races for others to start taking us seriously?
Melbourne, Wednesday 14th March 2007 ... the new car will be revealed in the pitlane just a few hours before it needs to be qualifying. This is an increadible stress on the team - will it even make the race distance? Don't expect a radically different car - truth is that we will recognise a significant part of it. But that's not the important part. The important part is going to be a lack of racing hours that would help Taku and Ant on Saturday. Neither of them have driven it for more than a few laps... This year, I want to be going to races and to have my team recognised as a real contender - not an "also ran". Minardi was a great team. Arrows was a great team. But there is a stigma attached to being a team without points. We need a few points, and we need them sooner rather than later. Championship points makes a team legitimate. If points were awarded for spirit and determination, Taku would be World Champion. I am realistic enough to know that Taku will not be on the podium without race incidents going his way - but I am hoping for his efforts to be rewarded with finishes in the points. One of Taku's greatest skills is to drive a car on the limit despite problems ... that means whilst other drivers will struggle to cope with two different tyre compounds, I expect Taku to thrive on it. So few days to go, and I will be there to see it. Am I excited. Yes. Like a kid on Christmas Eve ... perhaps Santa can bring me the best present of all? Just a point, just one ... |
