Super Aguri are heading into season two, and with a team that is beginning to feel more F1 I think it is going to herald our first points. Takuma and Anthony both have an undeniable hunger for racing and with the improvements we saw at Brazil, it is credible that the strategy of racing rather than cruising will mean points sometime soon.
We still need to hear about the new cars, and what chassis they will enjoy - but it is still likely to be a modified Honda. Aguri-san is honourable and will ensure the team is always within the various regultaions continuously exploited by every team on the grid (and some not yet on the grid). Anyone following F1 for more than a couple of seasons would expect nothing less... 2007 will be every bit as tough as 2006 of course, but with a stronger team and a great driver line-up there should be more special moments for us. Both Taku and Anthony love racing, and that is where our greatest strength lies, they can take a car well beyond its text-book capabilities. It is good to see that Sakon will remain with the team - those who have met him cannot doubt his passion for the team, and with a few thousand miles of practice miles, I think we will have a different man by the end of 2007. Already in the paddock, SAF1 have moved up from a novelty team to serious contenders - the fact that there is controversy about the chassis proves that. 2007 will see even more such attacks I think. Honda want us to succeed and others want us to stay at the back. We all know where Taku wants to be *Update* Although Taku doesn't mention points yet, it has to be on the agenda... As quoted on ITV.com/f1 : "I think 2006 was just a preparation year to build up the team and glue everybody together," Sato said in an interview with Autosport magazine this week. "Next year we cannot be in the same situation, we must improve a lot and I believe we can. Everything has to be step by step, but I believe we can compete. I think the starting point is much, much higher than last year's." |
